The Satire King: Thrown in Jail

the monarchy getting crushed
Our friend Voltaire was sent to jail yet again for insulting the King of France. You would think that his 69 books of political essays would be enough, but he had to write a 70th. In the sequel to Candide, Voltaire mocked the clergy, the aristocracy, and the government. He fought against societie's' prejudiced, intolerance, and superstition. He continued to fight for freedom of speech and for the monarchy to be abolished.
